A Recipe for Sporting Success!

Summertime is here and with it (hopefully!) comes sunnier days and seemingly endless evenings – which makes it the perfect time to get outdoors. While many of us will simply wish to enjoy the occasional weekend sunbathing, others will have more active plans like hiking or cycling trails, trips to the beach or maybe even dancing day and night at festivals! All through the summer there are sports, events and activities happening, from the World Cup and Wimbledon to Ironman UK, Tough Mudder, marathons and triathlons.

So if you’re planning to spend your summer out and about or are are training for an event, then you’re going to need something tasty that’ll boost your energy whilst you’re on the go. We’ve got the perfect thing: a simple, no-bake high-energy flapjack recipe you can easily whip up! Packed with slow-releasing oats, this recipe has everything you need to keep you going: protein-rich ingredients such as seeds and nuts, peanut butter and your favourite protein powder as well as complex carbohydrates and natural sugars in the form of banana and dried fruit. Plus it’s super tasty, too!


Makes around 12 squares.

300g oats
2 small ripe bananas, mashed
2 large tablespoons of no-added-sugar peanut butter (or almond butter)
2 large tablespoons of coconut oil
60g of your favourite protein powder
50g dried fruit
75g sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds and almonds


Place the coconut oil and peanut butter into a pan and melt over a low-medium heat. Once the mixture is thoroughly melted together, remove from the heat and add the rest of the ingredients, leaving a handful of seeds and nuts to the side. Stir well to make sure it’s all blended together! Press the mixture into a lined 8x8 inch baking tray (or any tray where the mixture can lay about an inch thick), sprinkle with remaining seeds and nuts and press these into the top. Put the tray into the fridge for 2-3 hours, or overnight if possible. Once set, cut into bars. Enjoy!
